You know, one thing that I left out of this article was that I built up to being able to quit over years, and it wasn’t during a massive pandemic/economic switch up, and for most of the time I worked at this place, I couldn’t have paid my bills if I quit. I’m realizing that this piece left out that part of the process where I saved by never eating in restaurants or buying new clothes/worked at night on my novel. (Or the way that being white, having no preexisting debt, etc. etc. play into it — which is to say, massively.) All of that said, I hope it may be encouraging to know that the buildup to being able to quit took a lot more than I represented here.
